Program Description

Details

Every family has a story shaped by the tides of history. In this engaging lecture, explore how to mine your own family history for inspiration to craft compelling historical fiction. Drawing from her experience writing about Italians during World War II in the U.S. and Sicily, the lecturer will illustrate how personal anecdotes, cultural traditions, and geopolitical events intersect to create rich, authentic narratives.

Participants will learn techniques for uncovering family stories through research and archival exploration while discovering how to weave them into broader historical contexts. The lecture will take participants behind the scenes of the author's first novel to demonstrate how personal stories can reveal universal themes of resilience, identity, and change, offering valuable insight into the creative process of historical fiction writing.
