History Comes Alive! Book Club

Our book club read for April is The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane: a novel by Lisa See. The story of a Chinese mother and her daughter, who has been adopted by an American couple, the narrative traces the very different cultural factors that compel them to consume a rare native tea that has shaped their family's destiny for generations.

Prior to the book discussion, Virginia Beach History Museums Director, Annmarie Reiley-Kay will give both history information and practical information on how tea is made. She has hosted several teas at the Historic Latta Plantation and is a tea connoisseur. 

The book club will meet in the outdoor gardens of the Thoroughgood House. Face masks are required. In the event of inclement weather, the event will take place virtually on WebEx and the link will be emailed to registrants. 

The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane: a novel is available in ebook and audio on Overdrive and in Large Print, audio and paperback for pick up at Central Library for registered participants. Adults, 18+. Registration required and limited to 7 due to social distancing.
