Our book club read for August is the non-fiction book and National Book Award Winner, Stamped From the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi. In this deeply researched and fast-moving narrative, Kendi chronicles the entire story of anti-Black racist ideas and their staggering power over the course of American history.
Prior to the discussion, Miriam Jackson, Virginia Beach History Museums division of the Cultural Affairs Department, will present a program, The Enslaved Experience, focusing on artifacts and the truths and myths surrounding them.
The book club will meet in a shaded area on the grounds of the Lynnhaven House.
Adults, 18+. Registration required. Registered participants may pick up their free copy of Stamped from the Beginning at the Central Library.
