Book Title:  America for Beginners by Leah Franqui

Pival Sengupta, recently widowed, has come to America with hopes of finding the truth about her beloved son. A year ago, he devastated his traditional parents when he announced he was gay.  Pival's husband told her that their son had died suddenly.  She seeks to find him - alive or dead, and come to terms with her own life.  As she and her two traveling companions journey across America, they begin to see themselves in a different way.
